How many Wordle words are there?
Wordle has two separate word lists - one containing 2310 words that are used for selecting answers, and one containing a larger set of 14855 words including many obscure terms that can be used as guesses to eliminate letters.
Both of these word lists are regularly updated by The New York Times.
The criteria for selecting words in the answers list is:
- The word must not be too obscure or offensive.
- The word must not be a regular plural word. Irregular plural words like "fungi" are allowed.
- The word must not be a proper noun (unless the word has another, non-proper-noun meaning).
